The final weekend of Fiesta wrapped up with multiple arrests for drunken driving, as well as at least two crashes in which alcohol is believed to have been involved.
According to the arrest logs at the Central Magistrate’s Office, dozens of people were taken into custody this weekend on charges of driving while intoxicated, including some for whom it was the second or third arrest of this kind.
At least one driver who was arrested Saturday, Jonathan Juarez, 24, was charged with intoxication assault. However, the details of the crash in which he was involved were not immediately available.
Charges are still pending, meanwhile, for a driver involved in a crash that left a man seriously injured late Sunday.
San Antonio police said they found bottles of alcohol inside the car which crashed on Loop 410 near McCullough Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday.
They said the driver lost control while heading east on Loop 410, causing his car to bounce off a retaining wall.
The impact partially ejected a back seat passenger, who then hit his head on the wall, police said.
That man suffered a serious head injury and was rushed to San Antonio Military Medical Center.
Two other passengers were taken to University Hospital, police said. Officers had the driver submit to a mandatory blood draw after the crash.
In another North side crash, a woman told officers a skunk is the reason her car rolled over shortly after 12 a.m. Monday.
Police said the woman told them she was heading north on San Pedro Avenue near McCarty Road when she swerved to avoid the skunk.
The car rolled over into a drainage ditch. However, the woman wasn’t hurt. Police arrested her on a charge of DWI.
