SAN ANTONIO -

A fire on the city's Northeast Side shut down parts of Perrin Beitel Monday morning as firefighters battled a two-alarm fire at an abandoned building.

The fire engulfed a former gentleman's club, located in the 11000 block of Perrin Beitel, which residents in the area said has been vacant for about a decade.

It was formerly the Playmates Gentleman's Club.

When firefighters arrived, they moved inside but quickly retreated because of the dangerous conditions and a fear the roof could collapse.

Ladders had to be used to put out the fire and, according to witnesses, the fire appears to be suspicious.

"We are looking for a couple of suspects (after) there were some reports of people running from the building," said San Antonio fire Chief Charles Hood. "It's a vacant building, so we, (in) conjunction with (San Antonio police) and arson (investigators), are out looking for potential suspects or witnesses at this time."

Hood did not have a description of the potential suspects.

No injuries were reported and, as of noon on Monday, there were no loss estimates.
