Firefighters are working to determine the cause of a house fire that happened just south of downtown Saturday around 3 p.m. on East Theo.

Six people and a puppy were inside the home, but all of them were able to get out alive.

Firefighters and emergency responders were unable to save the home, which is now being called a complete loss with every inch of the the house covered with smoke damage.

Witnesses said they were inside when they heard a loud pop. When they looked outside, they saw flames.

The fire department explained that fighting the fire was difficult because it wasn't a single family home.

"Firefighter were sort of hampered a bit," said SAFD Battalion Chief Johnson. "This is a large house, but it was divided up into five apartments. So all the different doors that you see, they didn't go to the same place, they went to certain rooms, so they were coming in from the back and trying to get in from the rear to the front, but they couldn't reach it."

They home is estimated to have $85,000 in damages.
