Firefighters respond to fire at Dollar General store downtown

Fire was reported around 4:45 a.m. Thursday on W. Commerce St.

SAN ANTONIO – Firefighters responded to a structure fire early Thursday morning in downtown San Antonio.

The fire occurred around 4:45 a.m. at a Dollar General store in the 300 block of West Commerce Street, found near North Santa Rosa Street.

Firefighters said when they arrived they found the glass door broken and the fire inside.

The fire was put out quickly, officials said, but smoke had spread throughout the building.

Firefighters had to air out the three-story building. The store is presently closed and the building is undergoing renovations, officials said.

Arson investigators were called and said they did not find anything unusual, as they believe that the window broke from the heat of the fire rather than someone breaking in. They do plan to look at surveillance video.

Damage is estimated to only be a few hundred dollars.

No one was injured.

Firefighters said they were at the building a few days ago for a report of a fire but they think that was actually a problem related to gas. Officials do not believe this fire is related.
