Family escapes, fire damages home on Northwest Side

Fire occurred in 5700 block of Dhaka View

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Firefighters responded to an early morning house fire on the city's Northwest Side, fire officials said Tuesday.

The fire was reported before 6 a.m. in the 5700 block of Dhaka View, found near Heath Road and Grissom Road, and not far from Bandera Road.

Battalion Chief Oscar Gonzalez said the fire originated on the house and spread to a shed in the backyard of the home.

The house suffered heavy damage on the backside of the home, Gonzalez said.

When firefighters arrived a man was already trying to fight the fire with a garden hose. Two members of the family were awake when the fire started.

Gonzalez said the family of four made it out of the house safely, along with their dog.

At this time the cause of the fire is not presently known, nor is the amount of monetary damage caused.

Arson has been called in to help determine the origin of the fire.

The investigation is ongoing.
