Gang investigators in San Antonio for national conference

Texas Gang Investigators Association hosting conference

SAN ANTONIO – More than 800 investigators from across the state, country and even Canada are in San Antonio for weeklong training sessions.

The officers in attendance represent local, state and federal offices. Some judges are even sitting in on the sessions.

The Texas Gang Investigators Association is hosting this years conference.

This week’s training will be focusing on comment trends among gangs, including gangs coming from other countries and gang connections.

"We're seeing a lot of the connection between the street gangs and the prison gangs and the cartels,” Ringo DeLeon, president of the Texas Gang Investigators Association, said. It’s all about making money, so that's probably the biggest trend we're seeing all over the country."

The goal is for the training to reinforce what investigators already know and relay those tactics to community groups with hope those groups can spot the trends.
