SAN ANTONIO -

A grim start to summer out at Canyon Lake after a 69-year-old man drowned there on Saturday afternoon.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Investigators with the Comal County Sheriff's Office said they got a call for a possible drowning at the Potter's Creek Park area, which is located on the north side of Canyon Lake.

However, when they got there, the victim, who had already been pulled from the water, was not responding.

According to witnesses, the victim was out boating with family and friends on Canyon Lake, when he jumped into the lake to cool off.

They said while he was in the water, the boat drifted off and he began to struggle.

Some people on another boat jumped in the water to help the man out, who at that point was unresponsive and not breathing.

Still, the good Samaritans pulled the man out of the water and began CPR, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

The victim, who has been identified as Larry Clemons, 69, from Garden Ridge, Texas was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Comal County Sheriff's Office, Texas Parks and Wildlife and the U.S. Corp. of Engineers, along with Canyon Lake Fire/EMS responded to the scene this afternoon.

An autopsy has been ordered at this time from Central Texas Autopsy, which is in Lockhart, Texas.
