Former NATO Supreme Allied Commander Gen. Wesley Clark knows it sometimes can be difficult for veterans when they leave the military.
"You've got to get re-intergrated into society and it's tough because people at home haven't stood still and mostly they haven't saved a spot for you. They've been trying to take care of themselves and their families, too," Clark said.
So he's teamed up with Los Angeles chef Dave Danhi to offer a way for veterans to become their own owner-operators in a food truck business called the Grilled Cheese Truck.
According to the general, these food trucks provide the perfect business model for veterans.
"Ownership, leadership, responsibility, dedication, and resolve, training -- all of the things that they learn in the military they can actually apply them right here," Clark said.
In San Antonio, the company is rolling out 100 of the trucks. The trucks will be dispatched to places that request their services, and serve up gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches. The company is exclusively giving veterans the chance to own an operate the trucks.
"Who better than an incredibly well-trained group of people that are overly deserving to have an opportunity to really live not just the white picket fence American Dream, but to be a business owner," said Danhi.
One veteran who has signed on has this message for other veterans looking for work.
"The concept is almost made not to fail. If you are a hard worker and dedicated, come out and see if this is something you would like to do. Its an amazing thing we are doing right now," said retired U.S. Marine Vernon Gibson.
