Northeast ISD officials said a missing 11-year-old elementary student has been found safe several hours after she vanished from her school.

According to NEISD spokeswoman Aubrey Chancellor, the girl, a fifth-grader from Redland Oaks Elementary School, went to use the restroom at 9:30 a.m. but never returned to class.

A teacher sent another girl to look for her, but the girl had vanished.

Teachers at the school, along with district police, began searching for the girl, but were unable to find her.

Several hours later, the girl  was found asleep in some bushes near her home, Chancellor said.

Chancellor said she did not know why the girl left the school.
