A 13-year-old girl was taken into custody after police say she stole her grandmother's SUV and led officers on a chase from Northwest San Antonio to Lytle.

The chase began around midnight Wednesday when a UT-Health Science Center officer tried to pull over the girl near Medical Drive and Fredericksburg Road in the Medical Center area.

It was not clear why the officer tried to pull the teen over in the first place.

The girl refused to stop and led officers on a 30-mile chase. San Antonio police joined in the chase and said the girl never sped, but did leave the road and cut through a rail yard.

Police followed the girl at a distance with their sirens off and tracked her from SAPD's Blue Eagle helicopter.

SAPD officers stopped at the county line, and were headed back to San Antonio when the girl finally pulled over in Lytle.

They turned back around and went to the scene to take the girl into custody. Police also put her dog in the police car.

Since UT-Health Science Center police tried to make the initial stop, SAPD handed the case back over to them.

They did not comment on the case and said it is still under investigation.

It is not known what, if any, charges the teen could face.
