Glass pool takes Texas swimmers to new heights

HOUSTON – For more than a decade, 777 Preston St. sat as a downtown Houston parking garage. Over the last few years, however, it has been transformed into a luxury apartment complex.

Not everyone can live in this high-end habitat, but no one can miss one of its most defining features -- the sky pool.

Jutting out ten feet from the side of the building, eight inches of crystal-clear plexiglass are all that separate swimmers from the roughly 500-foot plummet to Preston Street.

Owners of the building said the idea came from a similar pool located in one of the most luxurious cities in the world, Dubai. Though they debated including it in the tower's design, in the end it made the cut and now makes for regular conversations.

The pool gained a bit of fame after the building's Instagram account shared a resident's underwater video showing the glass bottom. That video was shared nearly 40,000 times and shown on several national media shows.

It is part of a private residence which means only those living in Market Square Tower and their guests can access it.

A perfect summertime story for me - swimming pool with a dash of daredevil ;)
