Grasshoppers invade Austin area crops
Lack of rain, grasshopper invasion costing Central Texas farmers
Grasshoppers are damaging fields in Williamson County.
For some farmers, the lack of rain and invasion of grasshoppers could cost them lots of money in lost crops.
Texas A&M County Extension Agent, Rachael Bauer, says controlling the critters could be tough.
"There's not a lot that the landowners can do at this point, aside from trying to harvest what crop and what grass that they've got; to try to salvage it, and you're kind of at the mercy of the grasshoppers at this point."
Officials say the biggest help would be rain, which would drive the insects away.
