SAN ANTONIO -

More than a dozen people had to be rescued from an elevator that became stuck at the Tower of the Americas Thursday night.

San Antonio fire and rescue crews were called to the Tower of the Americas around 9 p.m.

Initial reports indicated 16 people were trapped on the elevator just below the Chart House restaurant near the top of tower.

SAFD rescue crews used ladders to get the people out. Everyone made it out safe by 10:30 p.m., and no injuries were reported, fire officials said.

Elevator troubles at the Tower of the Americas date back as far as late 2006 when 18 people were trapped in an elevator.

Another four people became trapped when the elevator came to a halt during the spring of 2007.

There was no word what caused the elevator to become stuck Thursday night.
