Police searching for gunmen in near Northwest Side shooting

More than 20 shots fired at 4 homes

SAN ANTONIO – People living in a near North Side neighborhood woke up Tuesday morning to the sound of gunfire, and San Antonio police found evidence at the scene of more than 20 shots fired.

Officers received a call just before 4:30 a.m. about shots being fired along Neer Avenue, just off Interstate 10 near Fresno.

People who live there told KSAT 12 News that four homes had been hit. The one that appeared to take on most of the gunfire, however, was vacant.

Everyone living in the other homes, including at least six children, escaped injury, neighbors said.

One man said he saw two shooters, armed with long guns including an AK 47. He said he saw them standing in an alley, firing into the vacant home repeatedly.

Based on the numbered markers officers used to count shell casings, there were at least 20 rounds fired.

Police did not make any arrests right away. They also did not have a motive for the shooting.

One resident said he believes the shooters may have targeted the wrong house.
