SAN ANTONIO -

Staff with Harlandale Independent School District were preparing for a new school year with an annual Convocation at the Boggess Center on Wednesday morning.

The event is a pep rally -- designed to get staff in the right frame of mind for the challenges ahead.

"It's always so much fun. Everybody looks forward to it," said HISD Central Office staffer Patricia Dauphine.

Teachers and staff returned to work again this week after a much deserved summer vacation.

Teachers were greeted by Harlandale High School Spirit groups, school boardmembers, district administrators and the Spurs Coyote.

The convocation included dancing, cheering and guest motivational speakers.

"You've got to 're-juice,'" said Nancy Arzola, a Harlandale Middle School teacher. "If not, you come back tired. Right now, I'm in the sixth grade level and so they're coming from elementary school and they're coming with all this energy so you have to get ready for them because if not, you're going to die by October."

Teachers will spend the next week and a half attending workshops and meetings, as well as preparing classrooms for students, who will head back to school on Monday, Aug. 26.
