High-speed chase of stolen truck ends in gunfire

DPS trooper shot out truck tire after crash

SAN ANTONIO – A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper pursued a stolen truck more than 20 miles Sunday morning through San Antonio and Bexar County in a high-speed chase that ended with gunshots and three people in custody.

The trooper tried to pull over a black pickup for a traffic violation on U.S. 281 just south of Loop 410, said Sgt. Orlando Moreno, a DPS public information officer.

The female driver of the truck then led the trooper on a chase that topped 100 mph on Loop 410 South and U.S. 87 East before finally ending in East Bexar County near Loop 1604, he said.

The driver tried to turn onto the southbound access road of Loop 1604 but was going too fast and crashed into a fence, Moreno said.

"At that point the trooper exited his vehicle and ordered the driver to surrender," he said. "The driver attempted to maneuver the truck back onto the roadway at which time the trooper fired two shots into the right front tire of the car."

The driver and her two male occupants surrendered after that and were taken into custody.

Moreno did not say what age they were or what charges may face. The truck, he said, was confirmed stolen out of Beeville.

No one was injured, he said.
