SAN ANTONIO -

Commuters on the city's North Side got caught in a traffic nightmare Wednesday afternoon after Highway 281 near Loop 1604 was closed due to a gravel truck crashing into the Henderson Pass Bridge.
Torreon Evans found himself creeping along at a snail's pace on the northbound frontage at Highway 281 and Loop 1604.
"It's ridiculous man," Evans said.
Misty Tegler also got caught in the mess that was caused shortly after noon.
"I've been sitting here in traffic and it's hot," Tegler said.
The impact caused significant damage to the bridge and caused several traffic accidents after cement fell into the northbound lanes.
All lanes of traffic on Highway 281 South between Sonterra Boulevard and Donella are expected to be closed until Friday night. Highway 281 North traffic that exits to North Loop 1604 will also be closed until then.
Traffic is being diverted onto frontage roads where closures are in place. Drivers in the area are advised to consider alternate routes -- such as Blanco and Bulverde roads -- to reach their destination.
Bridge repair teams with the Texas Department of Transportation will work around the clock to allow traffic to safely resume.
