SAN ANTONIO -

A Christmas morning crash left a motorcycle rider dead on Interstate 35 North.

Around 11:30 a.m., officers received a call for an accident near Weidner Road.

Investigators said they aren't sure what caused the crash, but that the man apparently flew from the cycle and slammed into a light pole. The motorcyclist died upon impact.

“"(It’s) very tragic being Christmas day. He was apparently on the way to see his family," said San Antonio police Sgt. Steven Markgraf.

After the crash, Markgraf said the motorcycle skidded about 500 feet down the highway.

Markgraf said there were no other vehicles involved in the fatal crash. Markgraf said the man was wearing a helmet, but still did not survive the impact.

"Speed is always a concern," Markgraf said. "Use caution and stay within the reasonable speed limit."

As of 6 p.m. on Wednesday, the victim's name had not been released.
