San Antonio police officers at the scene of a home invasion in the 100 block of Clark said a masked suspect broke in through a back window, then confronted a 95-year-old stroke victim with a nail file, threatening to kill him.
Officers said the nail file probably looked a lot more menacing to the frightened elderly man.
They said the suspect then fled the small home with $4 in cash, a small TV and a phone.
They said the suspect, who is believed to be in mid-30s, wore a light-colored bandana over his face as well as light-colored clothing. Police also said the man appeared to be average height, weighing 170 pounds.
“I think it’s terrible. I think they should stop doing what they’re doing to these elderly people,” said Rosalinda Martinez, the victim’s niece who lives across the street.
She and her husband, David, said the man’s daughter checks on her father daily since he is determined to remain independent, but they worry about the possible cost. Martinez said, “It hurts. He’s my uncle.”
