SAN ANTONIO -

A 33-year-old man allegedly gave San Antonio police the key they needed to link him to a shoplifting case. It was the key to his hotel room.

An arrest affidavit stated that Jesus Pena was running from officers after shoplifting items from an Abercrombie & Fitch store at the Shops at La Cantera on Nov. 14 when he dropped the key to his hotel room.

Officers then went to the hotel and found Pena in the room, the affidavit stated. They said they searched the room with his consent and found several bags full of stolen clothing, worth nearly $5,000, the affidavit stated.

Pena, whose home address is in El Paso, Texas was detained by police at that time. Last Friday, they obtained a warrant for his arrest on a theft charge.
