SAN ANTONIO -

The local chapters of the Salvation Army and Red Cross are accepting monetary donations to help out the survivors of Monday’s devastating tornado in Moore, Oklahoma.

Salvation Army of San Antonio spokesperson Monica Ramos says money is needed more than goods right now for several reasons.

For one, any structure still standing in the aftermath that could house donated items is more than likely being used as a shelter for those displaced.

“If people give money, we can spend that money in Moore, Okla., prompting businesses to open up again so that families and citizens can get back to some sort of normalcy,” said Ramos.

The San Antonio Red Cross is also asking for monetary donations.

"I wish I could show you the screen of all the donations coming in,” said Rafael Aviles, with the Red Cross. “And these aren't just $5 and $10 donations, which are just as important. But these are $1,000 donations. So across the country, people are pouring in their support.”

You can donate $10 to the Red Cross by texting “Red Cross” to 90999.

A $10 donation can also be made to the Salvation Army via text by sending “STORM” to 80888.
