SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Humane Society recently helped two dogs recover from their injuries.

The Humane Society said a 4-month-old retriever mix, named Mushu, was recently brought in by a person who found him injured at a bus stop. Veterinarians believe Mushu had been hit by a car.

The damage to his leg was extensive, according to Chief Veterinarian Dr. Courtney Bridgeman, who said Mushu “had more fractures in his leg than I could believe.”

It was decided that amputation of his lower left leg was the best route for the injured puppy. The Humane Society said he has a cast on right leg while it heals.

"Despite the seriousness of his injuries, Mushu behaves much like any other ordinary puppy," the Humane Society said in a statement.

He is expected to reach a weight of between 60 and 75 pounds as an adult dog. He is not yet available for adoption, but those interested can keep up with his progress online or check the Human Society Facebook page.

The Humane Society alsorecently helped an injured 4-year-old Great Dane with a foot-long laceration on his rear hip.

Bridgeman stitched the wound, and X-rays revealed that the damage was isolated to soft tissue.

The dog, named Hamlet, is available for adoption Thursday at noon.

The Humane Society said Hamlet currently weighs 133 pounds. The organization recommends those interested in adoption to have experience with large breeds.
