Hundreds attend Purple Run to stand against domestic violence

Battered women and children's shelter, Kristine Meza Foundation host event

SAN ANTONIO – Hundreds gathered to take a stand against domestic violence Saturday morning at the fourth annual Purple Run 5K at Mission County Park.

The Battered Women and Children’s Shelter of Bexar County and the Kristine Meza Foundation hosted the event to show support for those affected by domestic violence.

Kristine Meza was killed by her ex-boyfriend in 2011. Now her mother hopes to continue her daughter’s legacy of helping people.

“By sharing her story, we’re hoping to prevent lives being lost. People can get help. Not just the victim, but the abuser,” said Laura Acevedo, Meza’s mother.

Shelter officials said it’s important to remember that anyone can be affected by domestic violence.
