Isidro Solis sentenced to 20 years in hit-and-run death of girl, 9

Solis hit, killed Tatyana Babineaux, 9, in 2014

SAN ANTONIO – A man on trial for the hit-and-run death of 9-year-old Tatyana Babineaux was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The sentence was handed down to Isidro Solis Wednesday evening. A jury found him guilty earlier in the day.

Solis hit the girl on the morning of Jan. 15, 2014, while she walked to school.

Solis testified earlier in the trial that he was driving back home after forgetting his tools when the accident happened.

He said he was sending a text message to his wife when he veered off the road and struck Babineaux.

After the accident, Solis briefly fled to Mexico before returning to the Laredo border crossing and turning himself in.

"I said, 'I'm not here to cross, I'm here to turn myself in. I think I have an arrest warrant,'" Solis testified.
