The San Antonio City Council on Thursday named former Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Joe Krier interim District 9 Councilman.

Krier will succeed Elisa Chan, who resigned to run for Texas Senate.

Krier said he wants to be a proactive representative for the North Side district and wants to make his transition into office as smooth as possible so as to not disrupt constituent services.

"They want good streets and potholes fixed. They want good police and fire and they want a very conservative approach with their tax dollars and I review myself as a constructive conservative, which understands to move our city forward, we have to work with each other to accomplish that," Krier said in his acceptance speech before council.

Krier will serve for seven months before a special election will be held in May that Krier said he doesn't plan to run in.

While the vote to appoint Krier was unanimous, his support was not.

District 2 Councilwoman Ivy Taylor and District 10 Councilman Carlton Soules put their support behind current ethics review board chairman Art Downey.
