BOSTON - American journalist Peter Theo Curtis is back in the United States after being freed by an extremist group in Syria.

A family statement says Curtis arrived on a flight from Tel Aviv to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey on Tuesday.

He was later reunited with his mother Nancy Curtis at Boston Logan International Airport.
