The Judson Independent School District approved the budget for the 2013-2014 school year Wednesday night.

At the top of the heap of items approved in the budget is a 3.5 percent increase in starting pay for teachers in the district, district spokesman Steve Linscomb said in a prepared statement.

This latest increase will bring the starting pay to $47,000.

The unanimous vote comes after a $1,500 step increase for teacher approved earlier this year.

Also approved is a 3 percent pay increase for professionals and a 6 percent pay increase for manual trades and paraprofessionals, Linscomb said.

The general fund budget is set at $162 million.

The total budget figure for 2013-2014 is $203.8 million.
