After nearly three hours of deliberation, a jury found Aaron Alvarez, 25, guilty of three counts of aggravated sexual assault.
Alvarez allegedly repeatedly raped a 23-year-old woman after taking her to his home in Helotes claiming to be a rapper.
He promised to show her his studio, she testified, but instead held her captive and assaulted her.
During closing arguments, defense attorney Scott Simpson suggested that the woman agreed to have sex with Alvarez and that it was not rape but rather consensual sex.
“That is putting the victim on trial and simply a diversion,” countered prosecutor Lorina Rummel, noting that the victim had injuries consistent with a rape victim.
Rummel said this was among three cases in which Alvarez would allegedly kidnap women and hold them captive as he sexually assaulted them.
The women in the other cases are among the witnesses Rummel plans to call during the punishment phase of Alvarez’ trial.
He is facing a maximum sentence of life in prison following Monday’s conviction.
