KIRBY, Texas -

Fire officials said a house fire in Kirby on Wednesday morning was being investigated as arson.

The homeowner said he was asleep in a front room at 7 a.m., when he heard glass breaking and saw flames. He safely escaped his home in the 3500 block of Kirby Drive.

The homeowner claimed someone threw something through his window that started the fire. Arson investigators said they found something suspicious inside the home and put up crime scene tape.

The house sustained heavy damage, although no damage estimate was immediately available.
