SAN ANTONIO – Get in the know, San Antonio. Here are the stories that impact you and some you’ll be talking about at the water cooler this week.

FRIDAY

The Northside Independent School District is the largest district in San Antonio and growing. To accommodate the growth and relieve overcrowding, six schools are under construction, including Harlan High School, which will be located on FM 471 near Castroville. || The San Antonio Spurs came out for Game 3 against the Oklahoma City Thunder as you would expect, focused. They got home court advantage back with a 100-96 win over the Thunder. || Deandre Dorch, 36, is wanted in connection with a case that involved two children being chained  Dorch’s wife, Porucha Phillips, 34, was taken into custody shortly after the children were found on charges of injury to a child. The mother of the children, Cheryl Reed, 30, was arrested Thursday night.

THURSDAY

A man led police Thursday on a lengthy, L.A.-style high-speed chase through several freeways throughout the city before he crashed a stolen car and was arrested. || San Antonio Independent School District officials took quick action Thursday against a school bus driver and bus monitor after a 9-year-old special needs student jumped from a moving bus Wednesday afternoon. District spokeswoman Leslie Price said the bus driver is now on leave and the bus monitor resigned Thursday morning as district police continue to investigate. || Call it good timing or bad timing, Donald Trump selected an interesting day and forum for proclaiming his new love of Hispanics. The presumptive Republican Party presidential nominee took to Twitter Thursday afternoon to say Happy Cinco de Mayo, while adding the sure-to-be controversial statement, "I love Hispanics!"

WEDNESDAY

A 1-year-old baby girl is not expected to survive after she was rescued from an alleged child abuse scenario in Blanco. A 9-year-old boy with special needs jumped from the back of a moving San Antonio ISD school bus Wednesday afternoon on the East Side. A dog found in a West Side dumpster two weeks ago is well on her way to recovery and a forever home in the care of Animal Care Services. Watch this ICYMI recap video for the rest of the day's news?

TUESDAY

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz has dropped out of the 2016 presidential race after Donald Trump surged to a decisive victory in the Indiana Republican primary. The Big Give SA was extended to Wednesday after Tuesday's 24-hour nonprofit donation event was cut short because of a website crash. Rosemarie Alvarado said she and her roommate, who is now in hiding, have experienced repercussions after they alerted authorities last week to eight allegedly abused children, two of them tied up in a backyard. MONDAY

The NBA announced the referees who officiated Monday night's Spurs-Thunder playoff game missed a total of five calls in the final 13.5 seconds of the fourth quarter. The mother of two toddlers discovered bound in the backyard of a Bexar County home last week was located Monday in California. Two-dozen mostly minority Sam Houston High School students boarded a bus one early Wednesday morning to take the day off of school.

If the Silver and Black were supposed to look rusty after nearly a week off, you could’ve fooled me. The Spurs came out shooting Saturday night and never looked back, laying the smack down on the Oklahoma City Thunder, 124-92. Our sports and digital enterprise teams had you covered at every angle, from a breakdown of the series to live tweets from Larry Ramirez and a post game Facebook Live video answering your questions. There was also plenty of folks to see. Can you spot yourself in our slideshow? And what would a Spurs game be without at least a few outside-the-box moment? Holy hail

Mother Nature once again called South Texas’ number this weekend. In the predawn hours on Saturday, residents from north of Boerne to Spring Branch woke up to grapefruit-size hail breaking windows and smashing through the ceiling. The pictures you sent us, show just how huge the hail got. Luckily, no injuries were reported but still no damage estimates from this latest storm.

Mother ID'd in alleged child abuse case 

A disturbing story from right here in South Texas has captured the nation’s attention. We got our first look at Porucha Phillips on Saturday. She is the woman Bexar County sheriff’s deputies believe is responsible for tying up two children in a backyard – one with a dog leash, another chained to the ground. In total, deputies rescued eight children from the home. Phillips, 34, has been arrested and charged with injury to a child by omission with serious bodily harm and injury to a child by omission with bodily injury. Even the people with years of caring for children of child abuse say they are surprised by the gravity of this case. ChildSafe specializes in treatment services, abuse prevention and education. It anticipates the community’s eight newest victims will be walking through their doors in the coming days.

It’s here, San Antonio. This week is the Big Give and we are ready at KSAT. All this week we have been telling just a few of the stories of the hundreds of nonprofits taking part.
