SAN ANTONIO – Get in the know, San Antonio. Here are the stories that impact you and some you’ll be talking about at the water cooler this week.

It did not take too long for Tim Duncan to show up at Spurs practice. The future Hall-of-Famer attended the team’s morning shoot around at their practice facility on Wednesday. || The majority of the city’s proposed $850 million bond package is focused on improvements for streets, sidewalks and bridges. Another $144 million would be devoted to drainage and flood control. Upgrades to city parks and facilities are also included. And for the first time, the city’s proposed bond package includes a neighborhood improvements category. || Mayor Ivy Taylor on Wednesday afternoon will present a special proclamation to San Antonio fire Chief Charles Hood on the Fire Department marking its 125th anniversary. "The men and women putting their lives on the line every day to protect the Alamo City," the proclamation will read in part, according to a city news release.

TUESDAY

Hillary Clinton was deemed the winner of Monday night's debate by 62 percent of voters who tuned in to watch, while just 27 percent said they thought Donald Trump had the better night, according to a CNN/ORC Poll of voters who watched the debate. || Testimony is set to begin Tuesday in the capital murder trial of Joshua Joyner. Joyner, 16, is accused of shooting Albert Nelson, 19, to death in the parking lot of Elolf Elementary School in July 2015. || Floresville police hope that by shopping around surveillance photos, they'll learn more about a man who they believe has been stealing from several Walmart stores. Detective George Ortiz said the man has targeted the Floresville store about 10 times. He also stole items from at least two locations in San Antonio, he said.

MONDAY

Boy howdy, did it rain! A Monday morning packed with heavy rain added up to all kinds of trouble on the roads for San Antonio drivers. The downpours washed out roads, slowed traffic to a crawl and left drivers stranded.|| Initial findings indicate that remains discovered at The Children's Hospital of San Antonio's excavation site are likely bone fragments from an old cemetery on the site, hospital officials said Monday. According to a news release, Bexar County Medical Examiner Dr. Randall Frost was on site Friday and released his initial findings. || The Spurs held their 2016 media day on Monday at the team's training facility on the Northwest Side. Aside from the normal media day coverage that featured player interviews and photos for various media outlets, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich shared his thoughts on players protesting the national anthem at sporting events.

I love a rainy night (and morning, afternoon and evening)

The Eddie Rabbitt song, “I Love a Rainy Night” just hit the nail on the head this weekend. Scattered storms fell across San Antonio on Saturday and by Sunday rain had moved in from the west and overtaken the city. After a wet Monday, the rest of the week looks to be chockfull of sunshine and much more seasonable temperatures.

Small town shaken

Folks in Kerrville are grappling with the murder-suicide of a councilman and his wife. Late Saturday, police found Gary Story and his wife, Peggy, dead inside their home. It was not until after his death that police confirmed he was a suspect in an indecency with a child case that was to go before a grand jury on Tuesday.

Head for the Cure 2016

Hundreds gathered Saturday for the third annual Head for the Cure 5K in downtown San Antonio. The race holds a very special meaning for a lot of people at KSAT. Our former News Director, Jim Boyle, lost his life to brain cancer. All proceeds from the event will go to brain cancer research.

Runaway puppy

A German shepherd pulled an “El Chapo” when she escaped from a California animal shelter by finding her way through three doors. The 2-year-old dog, Ginger, was brought into the Apple Valley Animal Shelter last Saturday because her homeless owner could no longer take care of her. Three days later, Ginger turned up a few blocks away from her previous owner’s house and was taken back to a shelter. She’s now in a much more secure space at the shelter.
