SAN ANTONIO -

On Monday, the San Antonio River Authority (SARA) announced the opening of the east bank of the Mission Reach from VFW Boulevard to Mission Road.

The trails around the section of the river were closed due to the record Memorial Day weekend flooding. The flood topped more than 34 feet in some low-lying areas, causing erosion damage and weakening of channel stability.

According to SARA, pedestrians and cyclists may now enter the Mission Reach trail on the east bank at VFW Boulevard and travel south through the Acequia Trail to Mission San Juan.

Additionally, the community can access the boardwalk on the river near Acequia Park.
