The newest Glazer’s distribution hub is up and running on the city’s west side and delivering 250 new jobs to the Alamo City.
“We’re consolidating basically three operations in San Antonio into one,” said David Kitchen, Glazer’s Regional Director of Operations. “Roughly 500 people will be employed out of this facility and roughly 250 of those have been recent acquisitions and new hires.”
The company’s old main location on the 3000 block of Aniol Street near the AT&T Center is now up for sale.
The new hub located on South Callaghan at Highway 151 is more than five times the size of the former.
“The old facility was about 100,000 square feet. This one is 520,000 square feet,” Kitchen said.
Roughly 200,000 square feet of that is currently empty, but will house the company’s beer distribution when it is moved in February 2014 from its location on the 200 block of Lombrano Street north of downtown.
That site is still in operation but already on the market.
Kitchen says the new warehouse boasts more energy efficient features like motion sensor lights and a heat deflecting roof.
The wholesale facility ships wine, liquor and will eventually ship beer throughout San Antonio and much of South Texas, including Corpus Christi and the Rio Grande Valley.
“We're glad to be in the neighborhood and we look forward to getting to know our neighbors,” said Kitchen. The new warehouse opened Sept. 23.
