HOUSTON -

A Houston woman said a neighbor killed her Husky puppy when the dog managed to crawl under a fence onto the neighbor’s property.

"The dog was such an angel. There was no need for this, there was no need for this. It was senseless," Sheree Tillman said.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office is investigating but confirmed to KPRC-TV in Houston that residents do have the right to protect themselves using deadly force, but only when the animal shows some type of aggression. It was unclear Wednesday exactly how the dog was acting at the time.

KPRC attempted to speak to the person who owns the property where the dog was shot. A woman came to the door, but refused to open it.

Tillman said she is frustrated because she worries her situation could happen to anyone. A dog getting loose is not uncommon and Tillman said her dog was not an aggressive dog and would not have ever hurt anyone.

No charges had been filed as of Wednesday evening and the investigation is ongoing.
