Police received a report for a possibly intoxicated driver heading north on South Main Street. However, before the call could be dispatched, officials said the driver crashed, striking a bridge railing that crosses Cibolo Creek.

The driver, Jose Tristan, was trapped in the vehicle and was the only person inside, according to police.

A Kendall County Sheriff’s deputy arrived on the scene and with the help of the Boerne Fire Department, they were able to free Tristan with hydraulic shears.

Tristan was rushed to University Hospital with critical injuries and was later pronounced deceased.

Police said this is the city’s second fatal traffic crash of the year, and the investigation is still underway.
