Veterans with Wish For Our Heroes make stop in San Antonio

Supporters gathered at Toyota Field

SAN ANTONIO – A group of wounded veterans is trekking 500 miles across the state on bicycles as part of the Ride Texas event.

The 24 vets are making their way from Wichita Falls to Corpus Christi. On Thursday, they stopped in San Antonio.

Ride Texas started in 2011 as a way to raise money for wounded veterans.

This marks the first year the group has paused in San Antonio.

Fans and supporters greeted the vets in the stands at Toyota Field. Even San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich recorded a special video message for the group.

“We’ve got a lot of support from the community, which was fantastic,” said Todd Traver, of Wish For Our Heroes. “It’s a great motivator. It shows that they appreciate what we’re doing here, and so we really appreciate that.”

To make a $10 donation, text the word AMERICA to 20222.

The group wraps up the ride Friday. During the event, one of the veterans is gifted a wish of his or her choosing.
