SAN ANTONIO -

Close to three dozen workers at Lockheed Martin in San Antonio were laid off Thursday.

A spokesperson for Lockheed Martin said they informed staff around Thanksgiving that layoffs would take place in the first quarter of this year.

Thursday was the last day of work for about 12 percent of Lockheed Martin's local workforce, which is about 36 people.

A spokesperson for the defense contractor said there is simply not the volume of work to keep the same number of employees at the facility at Kelly Aviation Center.
