SAN ANTONIO -

Jerry Patterson, a Republican candidate for lieutenant governor of Texas, is making an appeal for the Latino vote on Thursday.

Tejanos for Patterson gathered at El Mirador's King William Garden House.

Patterson said his campaign is focused on all Texans.

"Think about it this way, we've got 12 million illegal or undocumented -- whatever you want to say here -- wouldn't you rather have the Border Patrol chasing the coyotes and the criminals rather than going out there wholesale trying to catch 12 million people and deport 'em?" he asked.

Patterson currently serves as the commissioner of the General Land Office of Texas.
