A South Side man is charged with injury to a child in connection with an incident that left his girlfriend's 8-month-old son with a severe skull fracture.
An arrest warrant affidavit stated Julian Garza, 19, told San Antonio police detectives that he was alone with the infant when he suffered what doctors described as a "massive skull fracture" on Monday.
The affidavit stated that Garza told detectives he didn't tell the child's mother, his girlfriend, how the injury occurred and didn't get help right away because he feared he would get into trouble with the law or anger his girlfriend.
Garza later admitted he was angry because the baby wouldn't let him sleep, the affidavit stated.
The affidavit stated he told detectives that the baby, who was lying on the bed next to him, kept moving his feet and hitting Garza's arm while he was trying to sleep.
Garza said he then forcefully threw his arms up in the air, causing the child's head to hit a window sill, the affidavit stated.
There is no mention in the affidavit of the baby's current status. Garza was booked into the Bexar County jail Tuesday with bond set at $30,000.
