A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the distribution of several phony $100 bills, an arrest warrant affidavit stated.
Augustine Gonzales was booked into the Bexar County Jail on a charge of forgery-counterfeit money.
According to the affidavit, San Antonio police and U.S. Secret Service agents questioned two different people who they said had either passed or attempted to pass the fake bills at local businesses in June and July.
Police said in both cases, those suspects indicated they had been given the bills by another man who asked them to use them to purchase items in the stores, the affidavit stated.
One suspect described that man as having a bald head and tattoos on his neck, while the other told them the man’s name is “Augie,” the affidavit stated.
Police said one suspect also told them he gave the change from the transaction to Gonzales.
Investigators said they later put a picture of Gonzales into a photo lineup and both of the men identified him as the person who gave them the phony money, the affidavit stated.
