SAN ANTONIO -

A 45-year-old homeless man is accused of targeting a lockbox outside the St. Anthony River Walk Hotel twice, successfully stealing money from it one time, San Antonio police say.

The second time he attempted it, Ricky King was captured by hotel staff members, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

A charge of theft was filed against King on Monday. The affidavit stated that surveillance cameras captured the first theft July 24, when a man was seen breaking into an outdoor lockbox in the valet area of the St. Anthony Hotel.

A manager told police the thief stole $70 in cash from the box, the affidavit stated.

Police said the lockbox was targeted again on Aug. 6. However, hotel workers captured the alleged thief that time, the affidavit stated.

Police later identified him as King, whose criminal history includes several prior theft convictions, the affidavit stated.

Investigators said they believe King also is the man who was caught on camera during the July 24 theft, the affidavit stated.
