SAN ANTONIO -

A man was taken into custody Monday night after San Antonio police say he attacked a convenience store owner with a baseball bat and a knife on the East Side.

The incident happened around 6:15 p.m. in the 500 block of South Hackberry Street.

According to police, the suspect did not say anything before the attack and began to swing.

An employee helped the store owner fight off the man, but the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed both men.

The store owner was able to get his gun and held it on the suspect until police arrived.

The store employee was taken to the hospital with a stab wound to the chest, but is expected to be OK. The store owner was treated at the scene for his injuries.
