Man arrested in beating of woman with iron
Woman says she gave Colin Ryan ride to store
A 42-year-old man beat a 27-year-old woman with a clothes iron after she gave him a ride, an arrest warrant affidavit stated.
Colin Ryan was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the Sept. 22 incident that happened at a Super 8 motel room in the 1600 block of North St. Mary's Street.
The woman suffered severe swelling and cuts and bruises to her face in the beating, the affidavit stated.
San Antonio police detectives had to wait several days to interview the victim because she was hospitalized and unable to provide a statement due to her injuries, the affidavit stated.
The woman later told detectives that Ryan had called asking her for a ride to the store. She told police she had driven him there the previous day at the urging of her aunt.
The woman told police that after returning from an H-E-B on North New Braunfels Avenue and Houston Street, Ryan offered to give her money for gas and told her to come to his motel room to get it, the affidavit stated.
Soon after they entered the room, the woman said Ryan acted as if he had no idea who she was, then began beating her with his fists and a clothes iron, the affidavit stated.
The woman said she was able to crawl to the door, open it and scream for help, at which point Ryan suddenly began asking her why she was screaming, the affidavit stated.
A warrant was issued for Ryan's arrest in September but he was taken into custody Saturday.
