DNA evidence has tied a 32-year-old man to a home burglary, but he is suspected of committing several others, according to investigators with the Helotes Police Department.

Ricardo Cantu was arrested Sunday on a single count of burglary.

An arrest warrant affidavit stated that the charge stems from a home break-in last December in the 11500 block of Baxtershire.

Police said the homeowner returned and found glass broken out near the door of the home.

She later discovered that someone had taken several items from her bedroom, the affidavit stated.

Detectives also found a blood stain on a pillow and used it to conduct DNA testing, the affidavit stated.

About a month later, another homeowner reported a similar burglary, police said.

Detectives working that case determined Cantu, who had a history of arrests for drug, burglary and other charges, was a suspect, the affidavit stated.

They compared the results of the DNA test on the blood stain to samples they already had for Cantu, and realized the two matched, the affidavit stated.

Police said there have been other similar burglaries in Helotes and they believe Cantu also could be tied to those, the affidavit stated.
