SAN ANTONIO -

A man was fatally stabbed Thursday during a fight involving multiple people just north of downtown, San Antonio police said.

SAPD investigators said the fight started around 7 p.m. because of an argument between two men that got out of hand.

Police said between six to eight people were involved in the fight on North Comal and Myrtle. Police are investigating whether the stabbing was done in self-defense.

“It appeared to be a fight between the deceased and the suspect. The suspect's son got involved to help out his father. He pulled out a knife and stabbed the deceased during the fight," said Sgt. Jimmy Willingham with the San Antonio Police Department.

Police took a possible suspect in for questioning, but charges were unknown Thursday night. Officers also recovered a kitchen knife and a hammer at the scene.

No other injuries were reported and the investigation was ongoing, police said.
