Man killed in McDonald's parking lot identified

Matthew Elijah Nieto, 21, died Friday in Converse

CONVERSE, Texas – The Bexar County Medical Examiner's office has identified Matthew Elijah Nieto, 21, as the man shot to death Friday night at a Converse McDonald's.

The Converse Police Department said its officers responded to a shooting at the McDonald's at 7975 Kitty Hawk around 9:30 p.m.

Officers found Nieto and another shooting victim in a black Ford sedan. Nieto was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car, Greg Ermatinger, 27, was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center for treatment.

Police said Nieto may have called the shooter to join them before an argument broke out and they were shot.

Converse Assistant Police Chief Rex Rheiner said one of the customers inside the restaurant was an off-duty Bexar County sheriff's deputy. He heard the shots and called 911.

Nieto's family members said he was a Judson High School graduate. He was attending Alamo Community College with plans to study engineering at UTSA.

Police said the shooter fled the scene in a white PT Cruiser. Anyone with information on the shooter is asked to call Converse police.
