SAN ANTONIO -

A man who was reportedly picking up signs on Interstate 37 has died after he was struck by the driver of a car early Wednesday morning.

San Antonio police say the 36-year-old victim was possibly working on I-37 near Loop 410 when he was struck by a vehicle around 6 a.m.

Police said the driver struck the man in the median after he swerved to avoid another vehicle that suddenly switch lanes.

The victim was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center and later pronounced dead.

The accident caused a traffic delay in the area for more than an hour, but officials had cleared the scene by 7:30 a.m.

San Antonio police are investigating the accident and charges against the driver were unknown Wednesday morning.

Police said the driver did stop and was being questioned. The name of the victim has not been released.
