SAN ANTONIO -

A man who stabbed his wife more than 30 times in front of a school after she had just dropped off their daughter has been sentenced to prison.

Roberto Barron, 39, was sentenced to 15 years in jail for the brutal assault outside Bonham Academy in August 2012. Terry Barron survived the attack, but is undergoing therapy after several surgeries.

Roberto Barron stopped the assault when he was confronted by a passerby who drew his gun at Barron and ordered him to drop the knife. The passerby is concealed handgun license holder, San Antonio police said.

Barron applied for deferred adjudication and was denied. He will have to serve at least half of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
