COMAL COUNTY, Texas – In a unanimous 6-0 vote Thursday night, Marty Bartlett was appointed to the Comal Independent School District Board of Trustees, according to a press release from Comal ISD.

Bartlett takes over the seat of Single Member District 6 formerly held by David Spencer, who resigned in June.

The new appointee is a business development manager and father of two children that attended Smithson Valley High School.

He has served as President of the Timberwood Park Neighborhood Association for three years starting in 2011.

"I'm very excited and grateful for the support I received tonight from the Comal ISD School Board," said Bartlett. "The reason we moved to Comal ISD was because of the high-quality education students receive in this district. One of my goals on the Board is to help ensure that level of excellence continues and we're always striving to improve in areas of need. I look forward to serving and running for reelection in May."

David Drastata, the school board president, was happy with the appointment.

"Mr. Bartlett has a great reputation as a leader in his community," Drastata said. "With two children in the Comal ISD, he certainly understands the challenges we face moving forward as a fast-growth district. I think he'll be an excellent addition to the School Board."

Bartlett's new position will be up for reelection in May 2015.
