SAN ANTONIO -

Two men are in custody after robbing a convenience store on the city's northeast side.

It happened just after 7:30 a.m. Saturday at a Valero gas station, located in the 4800 block of Rittiman Road.

Police said one of the suspects walked in and threatened the clerk at gunpoint.

When the clerk gave him money, police said he ran out the back of the store, where the other suspect was waiting for him inside a getaway car.

The two took off, but not long after searching the area, police said officers located the car less than a quarter of a mile from the scene of the crime.

Police conducted a traffic stop and then shortly after, took them both into custody.

Valero on northeast side "We were able to locate money that was taken from the convenient store along with two handguns that were in plain view, one of which was identified as used in the robbery in the store," said Officer Roger Zuniga with the San Antonio Police Department. "Along with clothing that matched the description of the suspect."
Both suspects were arrested after the search.

Police said Damon Evans, 34, has been identified as the suspect who held the clerk at gunpoint and robbed the store and that Cory Williams, 30, has been identified as the suspect, driving the getaway car.

Zuniga said they both had active warrants and now, they both face charges of aggravated robbery.

Because the gun used in the robbery was reported stolen, Evans is also charged with felony possession of a firearm.

Zuniga said federal agents are also expected to question the two about the stolen gun, so more charges are pending.
